Beatrice May (King) McMahan

SOUTH PORTLAND - Beatrice May (King) McMahan, 92, of South Portland, died Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, with her loving family by her side. She was born September 1, 1919 in Meir Point, Maine, a daughter of James Mitchell and Mary Louise Stark King. Beatrice was educated in local schools. She was a communicant of St. Maximilian Kolbe Church of Scarborough. Beatrice married Daniel E. McMahan on October 8, 1941 and began raising her family. She enjoyed family cookouts and gatherings. She also enjoyed camping. Some of her favorite hobbies were ceramics, knitting and cross-stitching. Her major priority in life was children and knowing she was always there if needed. She was a former member of the VFW Post 832 Auxiliary in South Portland and Columbiette Council #11747 in Scarborough. Beatrice was predeceased by her parents; her three sisters, Hazel Kyle, Dorothy Frank, Florence Moore; and her three brothers, James, Harold and Sam King. Surviving are: two daughters, Mary Smart, Evelyn Martin and her husband Gerry, both of South Portland; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Her family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, for all their kind attention to her and her family's care and comfort. Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited 9:15 a.m., Thursday, at the chapel, followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Road, Scarborough. Interment will follow in Brooklawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Portland.
