PORTLAND - Annette Marie Honan, 92, of St. Joseph's Manor formerly of Massachusetts Ave., South Portland, died Friday June 10, 2011 at St. Joseph's Manor. She was born on October 13, 1918 in Biddeford a daughter of Barthelemie and d'Olia Guay Sylvestre. Annette attended St. Andre's School in Biddeford. She later studied nursing and was a graduate of Dr. Adam P. Leighton's Private Hospital. Annette married Robert Honan on July 9, 1952 at St. Andre's Church in Biddeford. She worked for Dr. Leighton as an operating nurse and office secretary for many years. Adam P. Leighton, M.D. was quoted "... none could be better---She is careful, meticulous, and sensible and an excellent office assistant. (July 1957). She later accepted a position with Dr. Edward Greco, Sr. of Portland; she continued to work for his son Dr. Edward Greco, Jr. until her retirement. Annette enjoyed the simple pleasures of family and friends. She liked shopping, family outings and loved good company and eating out in restaurants. One of her greatest joys was spending holidays, especially Christmas with her nieces and nephews at the home of Jimmy and Mary T. Honan in Falmouth Foreside. Annette loved games of chance. She won a trip for two to Hawaii in 1985 sponsered by WYNZ radio. On another occasion she won a trip for two to Jackson, New Hampshire. On this trip she and her husband stayed in a luxury condominium for three nights and enjoyed themselves with a $2000.00 gift certificate at the Jack Frost Outlet. She also visited with favorite cousins in Berlin, New Hampshire while on this trip. Annette was predeceased by two brothers, Marcel and Raoul Sylvestre. Survivors include, her husband of 58 years, Robert of Portland; nieces, Lori Green and her husband Steve of Biddeford, Deborah Credit and her husband Paul of Alaska; nephews, Norman Sylvestre and his wife e Priscilla of Biddeford, Michael Sylvestre and his wife Jennifer of Old Orchard, David Sylvestre of Hollis; a cousin Emily Hamel of Milan, New Hampshire; 2nd cousin, Robert Hamel of Upton. Prayers will be recited 10:15 a.m. Wednesday June 15, 2011 at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. An 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. John the Evangelist Church, Main Street, South Portland. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Biddeford.
