Portland - Ada E. Trahan, a compassionate and dedicated woman, passed away on May 26, 2023, at the age of 93, with her dedicated husband by her side.
Born on July 24, 1929, in Asker, Norway, Ada was a resilient individual who faced many challenges in her life, including the loss of her son at the age of 10 and her first husband at the age of 48. Despite these hardships, she maintained an independent and hardworking spirit, with a creative and nurturing nature.
Ada was proud of her Norwegian heritage and always followed her home country in the Winter Olympics. She had a strong love for her family, her cats, and especially her cat Margo, who was able to visit her at Seal Rock. Ada was a devout Catholic and actively supported the Animal Refuge League in Westbrook. She was an accomplished woman who adapted gracefully as she began to lose her eyesight, making the most of what she was dealt.
Throughout her life, Ada took great joy in gardening, landscape painting, quilting, crocheting, and knitting afghans. She was fiercely competitive, enjoying games of horseshoes and cribbage, often besting her husband, Lucien. Ada spent most of her life in Portland, where she raised her family and maintained a beautiful home for nearly 67 years. As Helen Keller once said, "Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it." Ada embodied this spirit, always putting others before herself and facing challenges with grace and determination.
She is preceded in death by her father Einar Nordgard, her mother Jeffe Theodora, her son Michael Warniello, and her first husband Walter Warniello.
Ada is survived by her spouse Joseph "Lucien" Trahan; daughter, Helen McAlpin; and her son, Stanley Warniello; step-children, Liana, Lucienne, Lyndon, Lisa, Loretta, and Linette.
Ada spent the last year and a half at Atlantic Heights and Seal Rock Health Care. The family would like to thank them for the compassionate and supportive care they provided to Ada.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at 11:00AM at Holy Cross Church, 124 Cottage Road, South Portland followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery, Broadway, South Portland. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of South Portland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, PO Box 336, Portland, ME 04098
Rembering Ada as a generous neighbor who shared her gardening knowledge…and production! We lived at 38 Oakdale, right next door, for about 9 years. Luke and Ada were a lovely couple. Sincere condolences.
