Zoel A. Labrie, 85, of Waterboro, ME, and formerly of Salem, MA and Ft. Lauderdale, FL, passed away peacefully at his home on March 18, 2013 following a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Canada on August 15, 1927 a son of the late Albert and Alma (Lacasse) Labrie.Zoel was the beloved husband of Georgette (Mercier) with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. He served in the US Army from 1950 to 1952 and has been a member of the Knights of Columbus of Salem, MA since 1955. A self taught carpenter, his passion was renovating, remodeling and rebuilding old houses and furniture. His philosophy was that there was nothing that could not be fixed. He possessed an extraordinary talent to invent and develop unique tools to help him in his trade. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed snowmobiling in winter, walks in the woods and along the beach, boating, and later, playing golf at which he once achieved the coveted hole in one. His love of travel brought him and his wife, throughout the US, Canada and Europe. In his later years, he enjoyed the warm sunshine of Ft. Lauderdale and his home at the lake in Maine. He was happiest when surrounded by the company of family and friends.In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Diane Hubisz and her husband, David Smart, Gisele Girard and her husband, Dave, and Sandra Oliva and her husband, Carmine, nine grandchildren, Jay, Brad and Shauna Hubisz, Eric and Leanne Girard, Tiffany, Corinne, Victoria and Samantha Oliva and three great grandchildren, Riley, Maple and Noah Hubisz, brother, Emilien, three sisters, Fernande, Berthe and DeniseFamily and friends are welcome to attend the Mass of Christian Burial for Zoel on Friday March 22nd at 10AM at St. Matthews Catholic Church, 19 Dora Lane in Limerick. A luncheon in the church hall will follow. Burial with military honors will be at 2PM that afternoon at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider donations in his memory to the St. Matthews Food Pantry, 23 Dora Lane, Limerick, ME 04048 or the York County Shelter Programs, PO Box 820, Alfred, ME 04002.
