Yvette R. Whittemore
December 6, 1924 ~ December 7, 2016
SCARBOROUGH Yvette R. Whittemore, 92, died Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. Born in Fort Kent on December 6, 1924, Yvette was the daughter of the late Remi and Elise Pelletier. She attended schools in Fort Kent. Following graduation, Yvette moved to Hartford, CT, where she met her future husband, Richard Whittemore. Yvette and Richard were married on June 21, 1960. Together, they moved to South Portland in 1973 where they purchased the Anchor Motel. Yvette and her husband owned and operated the motel for 10 years before retiring to Fort Orange, Florida. Yvette only had one daughter with whom she had a very tight bond. Together, they made countless memories over the years. One of the most memorable times was on her 75th birthday when Sandy surprised her in Nashville, Tennessee. She was a tough and strong-willed person. In her 92 years, she survived colon cancer, a stroke, a heart attack and several other ailments. Yvette was committed to caring for her family. She always put relatives and friends first, whether it was cooking in her apron, having people over, or caring for aging parents. She set a wonderful example for those around her. In her last 6 years, she was blessed to be able to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Tom, who in turn cared for her. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Richard Whittemore and a brother, Robert Pelletier. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Sandra Sandy Fitzgerald and husband Tom of Scarborough; sisters, Ann Cowan of Old Orchard Beach and GA and Joyce Hebert of Scarborough; also survived by nieces and nephews, Michael Cowan, David Cowan, Steven Cowan, Suzan Cowan and Scott Hebert. Visiting Hours will be held on Sunday, December 11, from 1-5PM at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Monday, December 12, at 10:15AM followed by an 11AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Rd., Scarborough. I am sorry Sandy and Tom I won’t be able to make the service. I had the pleasure of meeting Yvette this past summer and I’m smiling at the memories I have of sharing some time with her at your dinner table and especially of her laughing sooooo hard at how fast the dogs wagged their tails. She is missed.
