South Portland- Wm. Michael Thorpe, 60, of Boothby Street, died Sunday, March 18, 2018, after courageously battling a lifelong illness.
Michael was born in Portland, Maine on August 8, 1957, the son of the late Carl F. and Dorothy (Foley) Thorpe. He attended South Portland Schools.
He was a lifelong communicant of Holy Cross Church in South Portland.
Michael has worked for many years as a machinist at Parker-Nichols in Portland. In his spare time he loved being in the outdoors, boating, hunting, and fishing and was a member of the "Big Bucks Club" after getting his 200 pound 8 point buck. He was a master woodworker who could build or fix anything and was always willing to help others with any project they might have. He enjoyed gardening and landscaping, and spending time with his dogs. His greatest accomplishment were his children, and he cherished the time he spent surrounded by them and his entire family. Michael will long be remembered as a joyful, humorous, and a very strong and loving man.
Michael is survived by his lifelong partner, Donna Thorpe of South Portland; a daughter, Kristina Thorpe of South Portland; a son, Eric and his wife Elizabeth Thorpe of Windham; three sisters, Dottie Ann and her husband Alan Cleveland of VA, Mary and her husband David Gilley of Harpswell, and Nancy and her husband David Carroll of Gorham; his faithful four legged companion Neaveh; several nieces and nephews.
Michael's family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Wasserman and the staff at Southern Maine Dialysis for the years of dedicated care.
Visiting hours and celebration of Michael's life will be held on Friday, March 23, 2018, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at the chapel at 9:15am on Saturday, March 24, 2018, followed by a 10:00am Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Church, 124 Cottage Road, South Portland.
