William A. "Bill" Ramsey, 84, of Sanford, died at Goodall Hospital on Friday, December 11, 2009.Bill was born in St. Johnsbury, VT on May 19, 1925 to Albert and May Addy Ramsey and attended local schools, graduating from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1943. He enlisted in the Navy right out of high school and served in the Seabees during World War II. In 1947 he married Constance Bergeron and together the couple raised two daughters. They moved to Maine in 1952. Bill owned and operated a car dealership, Continental Motors, in Sanford for several years after moving to Maine. After selling his dealership, he went to work for American Cyanamid for approximately 24 years until retiring in 1987.Bill was a member of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish Sanford/Springvale and a member of the Sanford Elks Lodge #1470 since 1952 where he had served as Past Exalted Ruler and Past District Deputy. He was also a former member of the American Legion, the V.F.W. and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing bridge and going fishing in his boat. He also liked to travel and had spent several winters in Florida over the years. Bill will be remembered as a devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.Bill was predeceased by his parents, by his wife Constance Ramsey, by a granddaughter, Jennifer Cuddy and by a sister Jetta Smith.Surviving are two daughters, Michele Tremblay and her husband Ronald of Sanford and Marsha Cuddy of Reading, MA; four grandchildren, Aaron Tremblay and his wife Nicole, Jason Tremblay and his wife Corinna, Christine Cuddy and Kathleen Cuddy; six great grandchildren, Jordan, Brendon, Kayla, Zachery, Isabella and Olivia; a brother-in-law, Michael Ralston and several nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held on Monday, December 14th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street in Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Church, St. Therse of Lisieux Parish located on North Avenue in Sanford on Tuesday, December 15th at 10:00 AM.
