William J. Mulkern

San Diego, CA- William J. Mulkern, 66, of San Diego, CA died unexpectedly on January 20, 2016 following a brief illness. William was born in Portland, ME on December 3, 1949 the son of the late William L. and Helen A. (Milos) Mulkern. He attended local schools, graduating from South Portland High School and then received an Associate Degree in Accounting from the University of Southern Maine. He then went on to enlist and serve in the United States Navy. After returning home from the Navy, he worked in the finance department for the City of Portland for twenty-one years before moving to San Diego, CA where he worked for another fifteen years in the finance department for the San Diego Transit Authority before retiring. In his spare time William enjoyed taking his daily walks, playing golf with friends and was an avid reader. Even while in California he was a devout New England sports fan following all the local teams. In the 70s he traveled to Ireland, a trip which he talked of often. William was predeceased by a nephew Patrick Mulkern. He is survived by two brothers Joseph and his wife Linda Mulkern of Portland, and Brian Mulkern of Portland; one sister Karen Brewer of Westbrook; one niece and one great niece. At the familys request all services will be private with burial in Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
