Portland – William Daniel Dagnese, 73, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 24, 2026, at Seaside Skilled Rehabilitation Center with his daughter, Tricia and granddaughters, Kayla, and Alayna by his side. He was born on July 14, 1953, in Portland.
William “Danny” grew up in Portland’s West End and spent his life building connections with those around him. He was a parishioner of St. Dominic’s church. Throughout his life he worked in a variety of roles, some of his most memorable years managing Angelone’s Pizza in South Portland, where he became affectionately known as “Mr. Bill.” He also enjoyed spending time volunteering at a local food pantry. He ended his career driving cab, a role that suited his outgoing nature.
Danny was deeply proud of his Irish heritage and always carried the spirit of Ireland proudly in his heart. He will be remembered for his charismatic smile, welcoming personality, and friendly nature. His quick wit and playful sense of humor brought laughter to all those around him. He had a genuine ability to connect with others making people feel at ease with his warmth and humor.
He enjoyed watching sports, especially the New England Patriots, and rarely missed a game. If the Pats were playing, you knew where to find him-with a cold Budweiser in hand, cheering loudly with plenty of enthusiastic commentary and getting a little fired up when the game did not go his way.
He was predeceased by his mother, Patricia Mary Dagnese; his father, William Daniel Dagnese Sr.; and his beloved son Thomas Daniel Cowgill.
He is survived by his daughter, Tricia Dagnese; his son William “Bill” Dagnese; his grandchildren, Carl Dagnese and wife, Cassie; Brandon Dagnese and wife, Brandi; Kayla Dagnese; Kristin Dagnese and Alayna Baldwin-Dagnese; ten great grandchildren. His siblings, William “Bill” Gilson, and wife Sandy; Kevin Dagnese and wife Ginny Reed; Barbara White and her husband Gerry as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and nephews.
Danny leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a legacy of love, laughter, and family. Though he will be deeply missed, those who love him will forever carry a part of him with them in the stories they tell, the laughter they share and the memories they hold close to their hearts.
May his smile live on in our memories, his laughter echo in our stories, and his love remain forever in our hearts.
