William C. Billy Lappin

June 24, 1974 ~ April 11, 2016
SOUTH PORTLAND William C. Billy Lappin, 41, died surrounded by his family on Monday, April 11, 2016 at VA Maine Health Center, Augusta. Born in Portland, Billy was the son of Albert, Sr. and Dorothea (Sandberg) Lappin. A graduate of Deering High School Class of 1992, Billy joined the U.S. Coast Guard immediately following high school. He served his country for 15 years, receiving several medals and commendations. During his time in the Coast Guard, he most enjoyed his time on the USCGC Polar Star and the USCGC Polar Sea. His initial interest in the Coast Guard stemmed from his love of the ocean. He loved spending time on the water, whether it was boating, fishing, or playing football with the penguins in Antarctica during his service in the USCG. He also enjoyed traveling and had a love of animals. One of his greatest joys was cooking for family and friends. He often cooked for his shipmates, and his relatives always enjoyed whatever he made for family gatherings. He enjoyed camping and biking and was an avid New England sports fan. Those who knew Billy remember him as a witty, fun loving person who had a great sense of humor and wonderful one liners. Above all else, Billy always had a special place in his heart for his family. Even in his sickest moments, Billy showed compassion and concern for his parents, brothers and sisters. He is survived by his parents, Albert Sr. and Dorothea Lappin of Scarborough; siblings, Albert Lappin, Jr. and wife Janine of Scarborough, James Lappin and wife Michelle of Gorham, David Lappin and wife Margy of Chatham, NJ, Julie Haskell and husband Jim of Scarborough, Richard Lappin and wife Nicole of South Portland, Jennifer Gower and husband Deane of Scarborough and Michelle Lappin and fianc Ben Fuller of Woburn, MA. Billy is also survived by several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Visiting Hours will be held on Sunday, April 17, 2016 from 2-6PM at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at the Funeral Home on Monday, April 18 at 9:15AM followed by a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish, 150 Black Point Rd, Scarborough.
