William G. Ball

William G. "Bill" Ball, 77, of Acton, a longtime resident and businessman in Somersworth, NH, died April 10 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland after a short illness.He was born in Dover, NH on July 15, 1933, a son of William G. and Elizabeth (Bragg) Ball. He attended Somersworth schools, was a graduate of Somersworth High School and a graduate of McIntosh College in Portsmouth, NH.Bill owned and operated the Ball Insurance and Realty Agency in Somersworth for 30 years. During this time, he also served 17 years in the New Hampshire National Guard. Bill always had an affinity for funeral service and after semi-retirement from his agency, he went back to school at the New England Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in Boston, where he earned his associates degree in mortuary science. Bill worked in several funeral homes in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine including Heald Funeral Home in Springvale and Lafrance-Lambert Funeral Home in Sanford.Bill and his wife Anne moved to their summer home on Loon Pond in Acton in 1993. He was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church in Somersworth and Notre Dame Church in Springvale.Bill was very involved in the communities in which he resided. Among his many activities, he served as Past Grand Knight of the Springvale Council of the Knights of Columbus, past president of the Somersworth Rotary Club, past president and a director of the National Board of Realtors, past president of the New Hampshire Realtors Association, and 22 years as the assessor for the city of Somersworth.Throughout Bill's life his philosophy of service to others, compassion and humility was instantly evident to anyone with whom he interacted. Bill was predeceased by his wife Annette (Boisvert) Ball and his sister, Frances Dupuis.Survivors include 2 sons, Gregory W. Ball, his wife Lisa and their daughter Cassandra of Rochester, NH, James T. Ball of York, his twin brother, the Rev. Msgr. Thomas J. Ball of Burlington, VT and several nieces and nephews.Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 4-8 PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 AM at the Holy Family Church of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, 66 North Avenue, Sanford. Burial will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery, Sanford.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Knights of Columbus Scholarship Fund, P. O.
