Willard S. "Bill" Barnes, Jr., 78, of Alfred, died March 5 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland after a brief illness.He was born in Salem, MA on September 9, 1935, the son of Willard S. and Florence E. (Brown) Barnes, Sr. He attended schools in Swampscott and Lynn, MA and attended Boston University.Bill was employed in various electro-mechanical equipment manufacturing companies including Easton Corp. and Vitronic. In more recent years he was employed with Spencer Press in Wells.For many years he owned and operated a lobster and gill-netting boat out of Swampscott.He was predeceased by a grandson, a great grandson and his parents.Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Marie A. (Byrnes) Barnes of Alfred, son Bill Barnes and his wife Terri of Danvers, MA, son Rick Barnes and his wife Mary of Lynn, MA, daughters Sharon LeBlanc of Amesbury, MA, Carol Barbagallo of Lynn, MA, Laura Barnes of Lynn, MA, sister Paula McGonigle of Alfred, 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.It was Bill's wish that no formal services be held at this time. A celebration of his life will take place this summer at a date and time to be announced.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a contribution to the charity of one's choice.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
