PORTLAND - Surrounded by her family, Virginia Mae Currier passed away suddenly on Nov. 8, 2012, after a brief illness. Virginia Mae Currier was born Virginia Mae Downs in Brewer on August 10, 1931 to Percy James Downs and Hazel M. Kent Downs. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Charles A. Currier, her parents, and siblings Barbara Berg, Donald "Buddy" Downs, and Cynthia Wilcox. She is survived by her sisters Thelma Sensecqua and Marion Toothaker, her children, Linda Hodgkins and her husband Oscar of Hollis, Charles A. Currier, Jr. of Standish, Albert Currier and his wife Eileen of Hollis, Susan Scharf and her husband Scott of Portland, Debra Currier of Biddeford, Charlena Veit and her husband John of West Baldwin, and John Currier and his wife Vicki of Saco, 19 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren, who were all everything to her. Virginia enjoyed lunch out and shopping on Saturdays with her daughters, grandchildren, and longtime family friend, Karen Boucher. The family would like to thank close friends William Mayo for Tuesday lunches and afternoon drives, the Morin family for their care and support, and Dawn A. Greene, who lovingly cared for Virginia during her final days. We cannot thank her enough. Virginia will be greatly missed by all who knew her and will be remembered for her love, kindness, and generosity. Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 885 Shore Road, Cape Elizabeth. The Rev. Timothy A. Boggs will officiate. Burial will follow at Forest City Cemetery, Lincoln St., South Portland.Online condolences may be expressed below.

  4. To Ginnie’s Family: I am so sorry for the loss of your beautiful Mother. Although I hadn’t seen her in many years, we still would exchange Christmas cards and she was still in our thoughts. Charlie Sr and my Dad Tom Ross were step-brothers and we saw your Mom and Dad often in the past. I remember her as a loving, kind, gentle and very pretty woman.
