Vernor W. Gerrish

Vernor W. Gerrish, 92, of Lebanon, died on Monday, September 29, 2008 in Sanford.Vernor was born in Lebanon on September 3, 1916 to Theodore and Grace (Wallingford) Gerrish. He attended local schools and was a 1934 graduate of Lebanon Academy. In 1935, he married Della Dearborn and together they raised five children. He worked for many years at Springvale Hardware until his retirement. He was a lifelong member of the Lebanon Fire Department and had also served several terms as a Lebanon Selectman. He was also a member of the Springvale Masonic Lodge #190 where he was a Past Master. Vernor was an avid fisherman and loved to travel. He was a very handy person and could often be found doing work around his house. He had an excellent sense of humor and enjoyed joking around. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and friend and will be dearly missed. Vernor was predeceased by his wife and a son, Martin Gerrish.Surviving are a daughter, Joan Butcher of Manchester, NH; three sons, Philip Gerrish of Lebanon, Gilbert Gerrish of Lebanon and Vernor T. Gerrish of Lisbon; three siblings, Emma Waterhouse of Northwood, NH, Calvin Gerrish of Lebanon and Grace Jackson of Seabring, FL; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.A graveside service for family and close friends will be held at Forest Grove Cemetery in Lebanon on Friday, October 3rd at 1:00 PM with Rev. Beth Keating presiding.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to the local charity of one's choice.
