Utopia T. Brooks

July 4, 2016
Utopia T. Brooks, 18, of Sanford, died on Sunday, July, 2016 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.Utopia was born in Sanford on July 17, 1997 to Taos and Lynn (Deschenes) Brooks. She grew up in Sanford where she attended local schools, graduating from Massabesic High School. She had been employed most recently at Lord's Clam Box in Sanford.Utopia was loved by many and loved many in return. Her biggest loves were her brothers, Cadence and Lucien, her sisters, Jillian and Lollie, and her cousins, Khaalid and Daivik. She also adored her kitty Jasper. She had a sassy sense of humor and always had the ability to make witty comments that left a person smiling. Utopia wrote with the passion of a wounded soul and shared that with very few people as she was a very private person. Those who knew her also knew her love of anything elephants and the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas. So much so that her Aunt Olivia made sure she had that as a theme for Christmas the year after she came to live with her including the upside down hanging tree. Utopia declared this "the best Christmas ever!" Utopia also looked forward to her summers at her grandparent's camp where she was able to be a kid and enjoy boating and fishing with her cousin Khaalid. These were the things she looked forward to and the simple things she loved. Many remember Utopia's smile from her job at McDonald's and recently at Lord's. She always wanted people to see her smile even when she didn't want to see people. The years she spent in the foster care system left her with a desire to see justice for children become a priority to those in positions of power. This gave her the ultimate goal of becoming an advocate for children one day.Surviving are five siblings, Jillian, Cadence, Lucien, Lollie and Carma; her paternal grandparents, Richard and Cynthia Weaver; her maternal grandmother, Judy Boutilette; her aunt, Olivia Kakande; her cousins, Khaalid and Daivik and her parents, Taos Brooks and Lynn Dunton. At the request of her family services for Utopia will be private. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider sending a memorial contribution to Caring Unlimited, P.O.
