Portland- Thomas F. Conley, II passed away on December 22, 2016, after a long illness. A life-long resident of Portland, he was born on October 11, 1949, the son of the late Thomas F. Sr. and Helen (Stewart) Conley. Tom attended Portland schools, graduating from Portland High School in the Class of 1968. He had a long career as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service in Portland. He provided friendly service that was greatly appreciated by the customers on his mail routes. Tom was an active member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, the Fraternal Order of the Portland Eagles and the VFW. One of his favorite pastimes was playing competitive pool. Tom spent many happy summers at his parents cottage on Peaks Island. There he could be seen fishing with his grandfather Stewart and snorkeling in the old ice pond and along the back shore with his cousin John Stewart, of Hampton Beach, NH. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading history, especially books on WWII. Tom is survived by his daughter, Meghan Sara Conley, of Portland; former wife Teri Baker Conley, of Portland; one sister, Patricia and her husband Stanley Biggs of Storrs, CT; one brother Peter, and his wife Kathi Conley, of Weston, MA; nephews, Chris and Kerry Biggs, of CT; niece, Jill Conley, of MA and their spouses; several grandnephews and a grandniece. Toms family would like to thank his close friend, Ellen Lebeda, who provided friendship and care as he struggled to maintain his independent living after suffering a stroke in 2003 that left him paralyzed on his right side. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home at 10:15am on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, followed by an 11:00am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 492 Ocean Ave, Portland, ME. 3. Pat & Pete. It was with great sadness that I learned of Tom’s passing. It’s times like this that make us go back in time and remember all those summer days we spent on Peaks. I’m unable to get up to Portland this week but I’ll remember Tom this Wednesday in my prays. May the good Lord give you strength during this trying time.
