Forever grateful for six decades of a beautiful and enduring friendship with my beloved Teresie.
From passing lint lap- to- lap while sitting in the pew at St. Matthews, running on the beach in Seaside with pillows stuffed under our tee-shirts just for silly’s sake, mutual admiration for Father Sinkula and Mr. Smart, our propensity to got lost virtually every single time we ventured out together (Hyannis Port probably thought we were stalkers and Secret Service seemed concerned in Kennebunkport (“oops!”, trying to back out of a private driveway), running into lampposts while biking in Victoria, trying to be “cool” when we’d hop on the back end of a bus heading downtown, only to witness my granny blissfully providing harmonica entertainment on the front end – or not having enough money to fully pay for a lavish meal on the Princess Marguerite (pre-credit card era), devouring mushroom pizzas or “the works” at Woolworth’s counter, people-watching at Ben Paris, trying our best to contain ourselves in the face of hideously overdrawn lip-liner and curly-toed “Zolly” slippers (whilst Bibba gave us “the look”), narrowly avoiding a 4 a.m. abduction by two “maintenance” men at our bachelorette apt., laughter that most often resulted in rivers of mascara, snorting and making absolute fools of ourselves (“who, cares?!”), hauling off on drunk drivers at the scene of a broadside hit, campaigning for – and seeing RFK in person at the Olympic, trying to save my dad when he had his fatal heart attack, helping me hold Granny back as she tried to climb into dad’s casket so she could see him better (“Oh, Granny, you wouldn’t want to see Johnny, he doesn’t look like himself!” (a merciful fib that kept me from fainting), sharing the joy of bringing our own “Alexes” into the world two weeks and three thousand miles apart, and finally the conclusion we underscored in conversation a few weeks ago that we’ve both been so incredibly blessed by God with our hubbies, our sons, DILs and the grands they’ve gifted into our lives.
There is no shortage of priceless memories locked into my humble heart.
Through the highs and lows of my entire life, you were my person. The loyalty, inspiration, humor, forgiveness and most of all, LOVE is forever, darlin’ Tess. “Coco” sweetheart, and as you said in those last earthly days – “see you on the flip side.”
