Thelma "Allyne" Munson Johnson, age 96, passed away December 13, 2016. Allyne was born June 9, 1921 in Ezzell, Texas, south of Hallettsville. The eleventh child of George Frederick Munson and Mary Frances Smothers Munson, Allyne was raised and attended elementary school in Ezzel and Hope and moved to Corpus Christi when she was in high school. Her mother's side was "Tennessean" mixed pioneers who came to Texas before the Republic was formed and fought for independence from Mexico. Her father's side was mostly German immigrants who were drawn to Texas by Colonel Austin's real estate brochures circulated in Alsace Lorrain in the early 1800s.She was a Daughter of the Republic of Texas and one of who we now call the "Greatest Generation". Her husband, Marine Master Sargent Bernard "Barney" Wayne Johnson, was stationed at the Naval Air Base, Ward Island, Texas. They met on a blind date at a USO dance and were married June 26, 1943. After their first date, Barney told his buddy: "I am going to marry that girl". His buddy told him to "sleep it off". In 1950, Allyne and Barney and 3 young children started a new life in Acton, Me. Beautiful countryside but cold and snowy (which she did not like). After all three children had grown, Allyne and Barney started a third new life in Orlando, Florida, where they lived happily until Bernard's death in 1993. Allyne then returned to Corpus Christi to be with and care for her older brothers and sisters who have all now passed. She did her duty and now she is gone as well. Allyne had 3 children, Lance B, Frances Sue and Randal L. She left behind many friends and extended families and her own growing family of 3 children, 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren with more on the way. During her last day she had spoken to her children and grandchildren and was happy and thankful during her last moments. Her last words to me were: "I love you. Have a good day".Visitation will be held on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. with a funeral service at 11:00 A.M. at Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, Springvale.
