  5. I am saddened to hear of Father Plante’s passing. Years ago I bought one of his pastel paintings which I have always loved. Father Plante substitute taught in a painting course I once took at the Portland School of Art. I will always treasure his words of encouragement and wisdom during that time. I am now a professional artist and will be forever grateful for that time of his instruction. A few weeks ago I read an article about him from the Journal Tribune and was touched again by his view of his gift from God. I know he will be greatly missed and always remembered. My condolences and prayers to all who knew and loved him. Sincerely, Anne Gable Allaire

  6. Our deepest condolences on the loss of our dear Fr.Paul who was so very special to us. He married us 35 years ago and baptized our two daughters at Holy Cross Church in Lewiston. 7. Dear Bea and Irene,My sincere condolence for the death of your beloved brother, Paul! I saw him only infrequently but I’ll never forget the time I visited his studio in Portland. Like many others, I appreciated his paintings of plums. . . . My mother was a Plante, and I remember the name of Father Alphonse Lehouillier, related to the Plantes. So there is likely a distant cousin relationship between us. I am so sorry that I was unable to go to Paul’s funeral today! I would have liked to catch up with the two of you. I do, however, hope that all else is well with the two of you and your families. As for me, since my husband Francis died in 2010, I have been writing both poems and Francis’ and my love story. There is a lot of information about those books on my website elainemcgillicuddy.com

  8. Our sincere sympathy to the family of Father Paul Plante at this difficult time. It was an honor and privilege to know him when he was assigned to Holy Cross Church in Lewiston. He was a lovely and humble servant to the families of the parish and we missed him when he was reassigned to another parish. He officiated at the First Communion of our two children, and our daughter’s Confirmation a few years later. We are the proud owner’s of two birds, Black-Capped Chickadee and White-Breasted Nuthatch, painted by Father Plante. We always looked forward to his visit a few days before Christmas, when he came to gather greens for the church altar and manger, on our property on the outskirts of Lewiston. We know he is now at peace and rest, and pray for his family.

  10. Father Paul was a true gift from God! Though we live in TX, Brianna and I looked forward to seeing him every summer in Rangeley. He was there for me and my family after the passing of my teenage son, he was instrumental in my Father’s conversion to Catholicism, and he renewed my parents’ wedding vows on their 40th anniversary. He was our friend, our spiritual advisor, our brother. He will be dearly missed by my entire family. But we know he is with Jesus now! Praise God for allowing us to have him in our lives while we could. What a wonderful humble servant of God!

  13. On behalf of my parents who were very close to Fr. Paul while he was at St. John’s in Winslow … I wish to convey my heartfelt condolences to Fr. Paul’s family. When my parents celebrated their 40th and 50th anniversaries, they renewed their vows both times with Fr. Paul offering Mass. We lost Dad in early June and requested to have Fr. Paul come say his funeral mass not realizing he was not well. God bless and RIP Fr. Paul …

  14. Please accept my sympathies for the passing of your brother. I grew up in Lewiston and was blessed with knowing Fr. Paul when I was growing up. He was such a wonderful priest for 9 years at Holy Cross Church. He always brought such joy to our school and Parish and made a positive impact on my life. Whenever I see a bird, he will be in my thoughts. You will all be in my prayers during this difficult time. My hope is that you will find peace knowing that he is no longer suffering and is surrounded by beauty and the saints in Heaven. May God bless all of you.

We hoped that even after 12 years as our Pastor that he would not be transferred ! It is safe to say that Father Paul Plante made positive and significant contributions in all of his assignments. 17. We loved Father Plante’s sense of serenity which was apparent on each encounter. As pastor in Winslow he provided our family with years of service and then for years later we felt especially blessed to meet him once again on our ski trips to “the Loaf.” It always felt such a wonderful reunion as we caught up on happenings and renewed our friendship.
