Stephen Robert Hutchins

Stephen R. Hutchins, 17, of 799 West Road, died early Saturday, December 18, 2004 as a result of a motor vehicle accident in Shapleigh. He was born in Portland, April 10, 1987, the son of Kenneth and Cynthia (Gerrish) Hutchins. He was raised in Buxton, Hollis and Waterboro and as a young man, Stephen attended the Buxton Center Baptist Church.He attended Hollis schools and Massabesic High School. At the time of his death, he was employed as a commercial / residential painter by his father, and he hired out for odd jobs. He enjoyed playing the guitar and snowboarding. He also loved to hunt and fish and tinker with old cars and motorcycles, and he was a daredevil on his motorcycle and four-wheeler.Always willing to help, Stephen could be counted on by his friends, and he cherished his late dog, Choop. He is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Cynthia Hutchins of Waterboro; a step-brother, Kenneth Hutchins, Jr. of Biddeford; two step-sisters, Jennifer Hutchins of Biddeford and Heather Welch of Limerick; his maternal grand-parents, Robert and Shirley Gerrish of Dover-Foxcroft, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, December 21, 2004 at the Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. The Rev. Jim Key of Steep Falls will officiate. The family requests that instead of sending flowers, contributions in Stephen's name be made to Maine Mother's Against Drunk Driving, 26 Thomas Drive Suite 2, Westbrook, ME 04092.
