Stanley Main

South Portland – Stanley Main, 94, passed away on August 23, 2025, at his home on Evans St. Stanley was born on November 11, 1930, in Westbrook, son of the late Lawson C. and Viola (Neil) Main.

Stanley grew up on the family farm in Westbrook and went to Westbrook schools. As a young man he was recruited to work on the waterfront. Once he started it became his life’s work. He was well known to the waterfront community and spent more than 40 years working on all the wharfs in Portland and the islands in Casco Bay.

An avid fisherman and hunter his hunting camp was one of his greatest joys and was shared with the family and friends. In addition to camp, he also enjoyed vacationing in Nova Scotia where they had a cottage on the water. He and Viola enjoyed watching the Loons and playing cribbage to pass the time.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Southern Maine for their excellent care of Stanley, because of the extra support they provided he was able to stay at home until he passed.

Stanley is predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Viola (Conley) Main; daughter, Rae Ellen Kimball; and several brothers and sisters. He is survived by his daughters, Beverly Logan and Barbara Foley; sisters, Nancy Curit, and Hazel Lynch; seven grandchildren; twelve great- grandchildren; two great-great -grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Visiting Hours will be held from 4pm – 6pm on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Homes of South Portland, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Interment and graveside services will take place at 10am on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Brooklawn Memorial Park, 2002 Congress St. Portland, ME.
