Stanley A. MacLeod, 75, of Lyman, died peacefully with his family by his side after a brief illness on May 28, 2016Stan was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts on December 27, 1940. He served in the military for 27 1/2 years. As a sergeant in the U.S. army he received the Bronze Star Medal for heroism in ground combat while serving in the Vietnam War. While in the National Guard he traveled to Germany and Guatemala among other countries. Until the day he passed he was always grateful to the men and woman who served our country in the armed forces. He would go out of his way to shake their hands and thank them for their service.Stan served for 30 years at Southern Maine Medical Center as the supervisor of Environmental Services. While there, he was very active in charity work and passionate about the United Way and the March of Dimes.Stan enjoyed exploring new arts such as painting and playing the guitar. He was a man who challenged himself in life whether it be at golf or furthering his educational studies. He was a great teacher and someone who was admired for his strength and compassion toward others. Stan adored spending time with his family, gardening in the yard, fishing on the lake, chaperoning fieldtrips and show and tells, playing card games at the holidays and watching the New England Patriots games. Stan was a very giving and selfless man. He was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather who prioritized his family over all else. He was a man that everyone looked up to and respected and will be greatly missed by all whose lives he has touched.Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Carol MacLeod; four children, Donna Mooers and her husband Barry of South Carolina, Peggy Monahan and her husband Kelley of West Newfield, Laura MacLeod of Lyman and Myra Pawelski and her husband Christopher of Illinois; seven grandchildren, Danielle Fitzpatrick and her husband Jeremiah, Nicole Erbaio and her husband Matthew, Ethan Monahan, Jack MacLeod, Casey Monahan, Gabrielle Pawelski and Jacob Pawelski; two great-grandchildren, Joseph and Sophia Fitzpatrick; three brothers, William and his wife Beverly, Bruce and Russell and his wife Dorothy and many nieces, nephews and cousins.A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 17th at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery located on Stanley Road in Springvale.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.To leave a message of condolence for the family please click on the condolences tab to the left.
