Simone M. Bergeron
Simone M. Bergeron, 101, died peacefully on January 16, 2018, at Seal Rock Healthcare in Saco, with her family by her side. She had been a longtime resident of Sanford. Simone was born on March 26, 1916, in St. Norbert d'Arthabaska, Quebec, the youngest and last surviving of thirteen children of Napoleon and Annie Becotte Roux. Soon after immigrating to the US, she and her siblings worked in the weaving room in Goodall Mills in Sanford. She attended Holy Family School in Sanford, and Mt. Merici Academy in Waterville, graduating in 1935. She was a bookkeeper for several years at S. B. Emery and at Shop 'n Save (now Hannaford), retiring in 1977. She married Robert L. Bergeron in 1945. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and aunt who cared for her family deeply and was always there for them in their time of need. She was a role model and source of strength to many who knew her. She was also known for her intelligence, sharpness and wit. Especially in her later years, she was a valued link to her family's heritage. Simone was a woman of profound faith serving as a founding religious instructor, a Eucharistic Minister, and a member of the Ladies of Ste. Anne at Holy Family Parish, now St. Therese of Lisieux in Sanford. Simone was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, and her beloved son, John L. Bergeron, who passed away in 1994. She is survived by her daughter, Pauline A. Bergeron Flood and her husband, John L. Flood; brother-in-law, Richard Bergeron and his wife, Marie; sisters-in-law Rachel Bergeron Belanger and her husband, Norman; Sr. Claire Bergeron of Lawrence, Massachusetts; her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Seal Rock Healthcare for the exceptional care she received these last two years, and Beacon Hospice for the compassionate care the final months of her life. Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, January 21st from 1 to 3PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11AM at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church.
