Shirley E. Spaulding

Shirley E. Spaulding, 93, a longtime resident of Sanford, died October 15 in Oklahoma City, OK.She was born in Bowdoinham on January 18, 1916, a daughter of Ernest S. and Mabel (Temple) Lancaster, attended Bowdoinham schools and was a 1935 graduate of the former Coombs High School. She was a graduate of the Hahneman Hospital Nurses Training in Worcester, MA and then worked for several years at the Westfield State Sanitorium in Westfield, MA.She lived in Homestead, FL for 11 years, then moved to Sanford in 1972 where she was employed with the former Sprague Electric, retiring in 1982. In her retirement, she provided in-home nursing care and volunteered at the Old Timer's Shop. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Survivors include 3 sons, Dana R. Kuta of Midwest City, OK with whom she resided, Gary M. Spaulding and Murray D. Spaulding, both of Lyman, a brother Hugh Lancaster, a sister Josephine "Jo" Gregory, both of Richmond, 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 6-8 PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10 AM at the funeral home.
