December 24, 2020

On December 24, 2020, Shirley Alice Day Roux passed away at home peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born on January 10, 1930 in Sanford to Harold and Edith (Littlefield) Day.Shirley married Conrad Roux, Jr. on February 1, 1949. They had five children Brenda, Sherri, Larry, Laurie and Julie. For many years, Conrad and Shirley operated and lived on Roux's Poultry Farm in Alfred. Prior to Conrad's death, they moved off the farm to Route 111 in Alfred. Shirley moved back to "the farm" in 2004 where she lived until her death. Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She still lived independently at 90 years old. If you stopped to visit you would likely find her sitting in her favorite chair watching TV or scooting to the kitchen for a snack. She loved casinos, lottery tickets, Alex Pizza, lobster, chocolate candy and coffee ice cream. She enjoyed watching TV, word searches, and talking on the phone. Her sense of humor was still strong at 90 years old and she had a better memory than most 20 year-olds.She was predeceased by her husband Conrad Roux Jr., companion Conrad Beaupre, son-in-law William Hanson, Jr., granddaughter Christal Goodrich, grandson-in-law Peter Goodrich and her siblings Russell Day, Sammy Day, Valerie Binette, Ferne Penney, Violet Ricker, Rita Brown and Joyce Goodfield. She is survived by her children Brenda and Lee Melvin of Shapleigh, Sherri Hanson of North Waterboro, Larry and Rachel Roux of Alfred, Laurie and Steven Watson of Alfred and Julie and Richard Laverriere of Alfred, sister Betty Hachey of Sanford, grandchildren Rob Melvin, Tammy Wilkins, Tracy Melvin, Lisa Hanson, Sandra Roux, Shelly Roux, Jennifer Watson, Michael Watson, Kaitlyn Laverriere and Ethan Laverriere as well as many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Shirley will be dearly missed by her family who love her very much. We are grateful for the 90 years and all the love and stories she left us with. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association.Due to COVID, services will be private with burial and celebration of life to follow in the spring.
