Shirley C. Roberts (lovingly known as Toodie), 95, of Sanford passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday, July 9, 2021.
She was born on March 10, 1926 to Ernest and Wilhelmina (Jackson) Chadbourne in Sanford where she grew up and attended local schools graduating from Sanford High School. She played clarinet in the school band.
On June 9, 1961 she married Jacky Roberts and together they had one son.
They traveled to many places while he was enlisted in the US Air Force.
Shirley was employed at various local businesses over the years including the local mills, CMP, and SIS bank.
Some of Toodie's interests included traveling, going for rides to the beach and the mountains, and partying with her family. In her younger years she loved to dance to big band music.
Shirley was a strong-willed woman, and also a caring person who put others before herself.
She is predeceased by her parents, her husband of nearly 46 years, Jacky Roberts, her sister Betty Mitchell and great nephew Zachary.
Survivors include her son James Roberts of Sanford, her nieces and nephews Cindy Lovett Brown and her husband Jay of South Berwick, Jeffrey Mitchell and his wife Deb of Sanford, Tim Mitchell, Tom Mitchell of Springvale, and Wendy Letellier and her husband Jeff of Arundel, great nieces and nephews, Jeremy and his wife Marisa, Nick, Erin, Kyle, TJ, Forrest, Sheldon, Derick, and Shay, and great great nieces Lily and Keira.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 17, at 1:00 P.M. with an hour of visitation prior at Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale.
Burial will take place on Monday, July 19, 2021 at 10:00 at Oakdale Cemetery, Twombley Rd., Sanford.
Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service-Sanford-Springvale.

My family knew Shirley & Jacky very well.They use to come to our service station for decades.I use to take her husband smelting up Maine and the stories he could tell .We also new her son very well.
