Shirley L. Reynolds, 82, of Sanford, was called home to the Lord on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. She was born on June 21, 1936 to James and Dorothy (Bateman) Ellis in Plymouth, NC where she grew up and attended school.Marriage to her late husband George Reynolds, Sr. brought her to Maine where she made her life and home. During her working life she was employed at local mills and manufacturing companies. Shirley was an active and lifelong communicant of Notre Dame Church in Springvale. The center of Shirley's life was her family. She had the gift of making each of her children feel like they were her favorite. Not only was she an amazing mother to her children, she made a safe and nurturing place for anyone who needed it. Her family remembers their first Christmas in Sanford, where they had a humble start, and it was difficult to put presents under the tree, and because of the connections that Shirley made, friends and neighbors showered her family with gifts and made it such a memorable Christmas. She then went on to make Christmas the most special time every year and left a legacy of wonderful memories.Shirley enjoyed cooking everything from scratch. She was also an amazing seamstress and made of her children's clothes, often working all day, feeding her family, and staying up half of the night sewing. She was always busy, always caring, always reaching out with her southern hospitality, and always loving unconditionally. She also liked to travel to places such as Boothbay Harbor and dancing with her sweetheart Charles.
