Shirley A. Prime, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2023, at the age of 87 at Pinnacle Health and Rehabilitation in Sanford, where she had received compassionate care in her final days. Shirley was born on November 22, 1935, in Sanford, Maine, to Philip and Emily (Harvey) Michaud. She grew up in Sanford and attended St. Ignatius School, where she laid the foundation for a life filled with love, compassion, and a strong work ethic. On November 25, 1954, Shirley married the love of her life, Gordon Prime, and together they embarked on a remarkable journey spanning nearly 69 years. Their enduring bond was a testament to their unwavering commitment and deep affection for one another. During her working life, Shirley utilized her talents as a seamstress at Aletta Dress Shop in Sanford. Her skillful craftsmanship and attention to detail were evident in every garment she touched. Outside of her professional pursuits, Shirley found solace and joy in various hobbies. She possessed a creative spirit and enjoyed sewing, knitting, and crocheting beautiful pieces. She also enjoyed cooking and preparing delicious meals for her family. Shirley had a deep love for animals and had a special affinity for farm animals, particularly cattle. She was a true farmer at heart, finding fulfillment in the care and nurture of animals. Over the years, Shirley rescued and rehabilitated numerous squirrels and chipmunks, providing them with a second chance at life. She also opened her home to stray animals and dogs, offering them love and a safe haven. In her younger years, Shirley enjoyed bowling and had participated in a bowling league alongside her daughter. She also enjoyed ceramics, where she expressed her creativity and brought to life unique and beautiful pieces. Frogs held a special place in Shirley's heart, and she delighted in collecting frog figurines and any items adorned with frog motifs. Her collection was a testament to her whimsical spirit and brought a touch of joy to her surroundings. Above all else, Shirley cherished her role as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her kindness, love, and unwavering support left an indelible mark on the lives of her family and friends. Shirley's memory will forever be treasured and her absence deeply felt. Shirley was predeceased by her loving son, Robert Prime, and her brother, Lionel Michaud. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Gordon Prime of Sanford, who shared an extraordinary bond with her. She is also survived by her children, Judith Gibbs and her husband Wayne of Sanford, Daniel Prime of Sanford; her grandson, Christopher Prime of Sanford and two great-grandsons, Noah Jameson Prime and Isaac Emerson Prime, both of Sanford. At Shirley’s request arrangements will be private. Interment will be held at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider sending a memorial contribution in Shirley's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
