Shirley Mae Hall
1929-2023
SANFORD--Shirley Mae Hall, of Sanford, ME, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on May 21st, 2023.
Shirley was born on December 30th, 1929; 2 months after the stock market crash and the Great Depression began. Just to give a little more context, she was born the same year that Martin Luther King, Jr and Anne Frank were born, and was alive in 11 decades. She has seen some serious stuff.
Although Shirley was born into tough times, and was certainly not spared from having a difficult life, she did not have a bad bone in her body. Everyone who met her remarked on her laugh, her sense of humor, and her kindness. Her sense of humor was top notch; even in the last week of her life she was cracking her family up. It was easy and fun to make her laugh, but she made you laugh even easier. Her pure, childlike innocence doesn’t exist much anymore.
She raised 4 lovely children that she cared for with all of her heart, and her grandchildren were blessed to have her for many, many years. Shirley was shy and modest, but she was a very talented artist in many ways. She sewed hers and her family’s own clothes, loved drawing, painting, puzzles and reading. She enjoyed watching TV and was particularly a fan of John Wayne and Elvis Presley. Shirley never had the opportunity to learn how to drive and walked EVERYWHERE for her family. Her legs were still muscly and strong, even at 93 years old. Our last memories of Shirley are pleasant, and we are thankful she was healthy for so long and didn’t have to suffer. Every one of us was a little better with Shirley in our lives.
Shirley is predeceased by her parents and husband, Jeffrey.
She leaves behind her 4 children, Glenna Bouchard, Brenda Hawker, Danny Hall and Katherine White, 10 grandchildren, Candy, Brian, Tracy, Frankie, Jammie, Becky, Chris, Samantha, Jesse and Sophia, 1 step-grandchild, Angela, and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Mom, you will always be my guiding light. I will love you forever. Kathy
Of course I would apologize for not seeing her more as we got older. I would also tell her how much I appreciated her as a kid. I never appreciated her enough. And I would say that she touched a lot of lives and that she truly is one of the best human beings to live on this earth.
I miss you Grammy

I love you Grammy
I have a lot of funny stories about Shirley. One that stick in my mind is when she was babysitting me. I was about 6, and had a pet hamster. Hamsters, as you may know, store food in their cheeks. My Grammy was convinced he was choking and tried saving his life! I tried to tell her but she was adamant that she needed to save him. He ended up being fine, so I guess she did save him!
