South Portland- Sherri Lynn Barlow, 71, of Westbrook Street died on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at her home with her loving family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer.
Sherri was born in Portland, Maine on March 28, 1949 the daughter of the late Kenneth P. and Verna E. (Anderson) Alexander. She grew up and attended schools in Portland, unable to finish high school, Sherri was very proud of earning her GED in 1983.
In July of 1986 Sherri, after dating for many years, married Joseph Francis Barlow. Together they had 25 years of wonderful marriage together.
Sherri worked for several years at the Portland Press Herald, following the birth of her children she became a full time homemaker, caring for and raising her family. In her sparetime she loved to play beano, going to the beach and watching game shows. She adored animals and especially loved her two cats Whiskers and Oreo. Sherri was a fan of oldies music from 1950's and 60's especially Elvis Presley. She was tickled pink, like a kid in a candy store when she met the lead singer of the Beach Boys. Her greatest accomplishment in life was the raising of her children, she was the best mother, kind, caring, thoughtful, and generous. She would give someone her last dollar if she thought it would help. She was always happy to be surrounded by her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a warm thank you for to everyone from Hospice that helped care for Sherri. The love and compassion they showed to her was very much appreciated.
She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Francis Barlow in 2008; and a sister, Elaine O'Connell. She is survived by a daughter, Christeen and her husband Dale Hansen of Portland; a son, David Clifford of Portland; a sister, Jane and her husband Al Ward of South Portland; three brothers, David and his wife Merna Alexander of Augusta, John Alexander of FL, Fred and his wife Debbie Alexander of Bath; seven grandchildren, Christopher Geisinger Jr., Kristen Geisinger, Nicholas Geisinger, Steven Geisinger, Nicole Dahl, Adriana Stone, and Matthew Thibodeau; eleven great grandchildren, Jordyn, Brianna, Michael, Cameron, Nicolette, Harper, Joseph, McKenna, Alexa, Rae-Lynn, and Matthew; several nieces and nephews.

My deepest condolences on the great loss of your Mom, David and Christeen. Bringing her home once she entered Hospice was a wise and loving choice, and allowed you and everyone to be with her and share their love for her, and to say goodbye. Take good care of yourselves in the weeks and months to come, as your hearts are broken and you are very vulnerable. You do know this is what she would want you to do.
