December 5, 2019

Sharon Beth Rivas, 50, passed away on December 5, 2019 after a courageous battle with ALS at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. She was born on January 14, 1969 the daughter of Efrain and Sylvia (James) Rivas in Long Island, NY. When she was a year and a half, the family moved to Kennebunk where she grew up and attended local schools. Sharon then went on to graduate from Andover College earning her Associates Degree as a Paralegal. She was excellent at her work and was a Paralegal for 25 years. She was employed H & D Title in Biddeford, and then Schaeffer Douglas Title in South Portland. She was very determined and continued to work until about a month ago until her health prevented her from it. Though she liked to work hard, she liked to play hard and had several hobbies she enjoyed. First and foremost she loved being on a motorcycle with Dennis. She liked being copilot so that she could enjoy the scenery. They rode all over the country. Sharon enjoyed getting together with friends, at places such as Bentley's in Arundel. Being outdoors camping, snowmobiling, and hiking were some of the ways she passed her time. The Eagles and Eric Clapton were some of her favorite musicians. She was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, New Orleans Saints, and the Florida Gators. She also was a serious NASCAR fan and could proudly say she never missed a race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon. If you knew Sharon you would know that her favorite flower was the iris. She was also a talented painter and at one time was in a painting club. She also had a deep sense of patriotism and for a time was a member of the Patriot riders.Family roots from Jackman and Charlotte kept her going there to spend time with family and they were some of her favorite places to be. She was a loyal friend and loved and cared for her niece and nephews immensely. Her gentle heart was shown in her love of friends and family and of animals, including birds, ducks, and cats. Her strong and determined side kept her not backing down and pressing on until she could no longer do so.Survivors include her long time partner Dennis Swan, of Sanford, her parents,Efrain and Syliva Rivas, of Kennebunk, her brothers, David "Ben" Rivas and his wife Kristin of Wiscassett, and Scott Rivas and his wife Viginia, of Jackman, nephews, Scott L.
