Sharon Jameyson Brasier

SOUTH PORTLAND - Sharon Brasier, 66, passed away on July 3, 2014, at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a prolonged battle with Alpha 1 Anti-Trypsin Deficiency. She was born in Portland, Maine, on November 1, 1947, to John and Hazel Jameyson, and was a lifelong resident of South Portland. She was a 1966 graduate of South Portland High School, and received an Associate Degree from Westbrook College in 1968. On December 20, 1969, she married Jeffrey T. Brasier, also of South Portland. They had two children, Eric and Ellen. From 1968-1973, Sharon worked as an Administrative Assistant for Maine Medical Center before going to work for American Personnel. In 1983, she went to work as Personnel Manager for Deering Ice Cream in Portland before accepting a position as the Office Manager at South Portland High School from 1987 until she retired in 1998 due to her illness. Sharon was an active member of St. Albans Episcopal Church in Cape Elizabeth. In her time at the church, she served as a member of the Vestry, the Alter Guild, was a Lay Reader, and a Chalice Bearer.Sharon had many jobs throughout her life, but the job she took the most pride in was that of a mother. She was a champion for her children. As a swim mom, she cheered on her children during every single race, saying she swam each stroke with them. When she wasn't being a fan, she was working behind the scenes as a member of the South Portland Swimming and Diving Booster Club. Sharon was a fighter, and fought the good fight for the last eighteen years of her life, refusing to let her illness get the better of her. In 2001, Sharon received a second chance at life when she received a lung transplant. This new lease on life gave her the opportunity to see her children get married, and get to know her three precious grandchildren. They were indeed the light of her life for the past ten years. In 2012 she received a kidney transplant which saved her life once again, and gave her two more years with her family. It's with heartfelt thanks that we acknowledge the fine doctors and nurses who cared for Sharon, especially Dr. Stephen Mette who initially diagnosed her condition, the organ transplant teams at Massachusetts General Hospital and Maine Medical Center who cared for her, as well as the many friends and family who provided transportation and company for Sharon to her appointments in Boston.Sharon was predeceased by her husband, Jeffrey, in 2006. She is survived by her son Eric, his wife Tracey, and their son Jameyson of Eddington; and her daughter Ellen Benson, her husband Brian, and their two children Liam and Nora of South Portland. Sharon will be greatly missed also by her brother Gale Jameyson of Amelia Island, Florida; sisters-in-law Judy Soule of Poland, Sue Larrabee and her husband Harold of Cumberland; brother-in-law Stephen Brasier and his wife Clementine of North Windham; and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her friends of forty years, George and Rosemary Skillin of Gorham; close friends Rick and Donna Angell of Gorham; and lifelong friend Lois Willis of Falmouth. The family also requests that in honor of Sharon you would consider organ donation for yourself or your loved ones. Organ donations do save lives, and this life giving gift gave Sharon the opportunity to live a fulfilling life right to the end. Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. An 11:00 a.m. Service with Holy Eucharist will be held on Thursday at Cathedral Church of St. Luke, 143 State Street, Portland. Burial will be at a later date.
