Resided in: South Portland, Maine

South Portland - Sandra (Sandy) Butler, 73, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2023, after a long illness. She was born on October 13, 1949, to her loving parents, the late Harold T. West and Shirley Bryant West. Sandra grew up in South Portland, Maine. She graduated from South Portland High School in 1968. After High school Sandra moved to Falmouth, Maine to spend time with her maternal grandmother. They became snowbirds and wintered in Florida and summered in Maine, until she met and married Nelson Butler in 1982 and moved back to South Portland, only minutes from her childhood home. Sandra was employed by Mercy Hospital in Portland for many years as an EKG technician. Over the years she developed many close friendships with staff and the Sisters of Mercy, these friendships continued after her retirement. In her free time, Sandra enjoyed traveling the Northeast region sightseeing with her husband. She was an avid collector of Hummel figurines and British Royal Memorabilia. One of her favorite pastimes was shopping. Sandra loved children and over the past ten years what gave her the most enjoyment in life was spending time with her great grandchildren. Sandra was very kind and generous to all peoples she knew or met. She was always there to lend a helping hand when needed. Sandra was a very independent, strong and determined person. She will be missed by many. Sandra is survived by her husband and caregiver, Nelson Butler of South Portland; stepdaughters, Maria Moustrouphis of Portland, Judy Dupuis of Buxton; brothers, Harold West Jr. of Falmouth, and Lawrence West Sr. of South Portland; niece, Wendy Saprun of South Portland; nephews, Lawrence West Jr. of South Portland, Harold West III of Falmouth; great-nieces and nephew, Grace, Kristen and Evan. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and 16 Great grandchildren. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
