South Portland- Ruth J. Noyes, 90, died peacefully on January 23, 2019 at Maine Medical Center following a brief illness, she was surrounded by the people she loved. Ruth was the daughter of the late John and Georgia Daigle. Ruth and her husband Bill, were very well known in the South Portland community for having the Noyes Home for Boys on Sawyer Street. Small in stature but big in heart, Ruth played a major role in the compassionate care of 24 mentally and physically handicapped young men for many years. Ruth never had many hobbies, but in the last several years of her life she was entertained for hours by the antics of a little Yorkie named Chloe. Her wit, generous smile and tremendous sense of humor will be sorely missed by her many friends. Ruth was predeceased by her husband William Noyes; a brother, John Daigle; a nephew, John Daigle. She is survived by her godsons, Paul Lowe of Falmouth and Daniel Lowe of Yarmouth; sister in law, Ida Daigle of Kenduskeag; several nieces and nephews. Other "family members" would include dear friends, MaryLou Shuster, Dominic Degifico, Alice St. Cyr, and Carole Nelson. The family would like to thank the South Portland Police Department and first responders for their quick response and care, as well as the doctors and nurses in the ER at Maine Medical Center. Visiting hours celebrating Ruth's life will be held on Monday, February 4, 2019 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland.
