Ruth A. Brown

Ruth A. Brown, 96, a longtime resident of Acton, died July 9 at Huntington Common in Kennebunk after a lengthy illness.She was born in Acton on July 28, 1917, the daughter of Alphonsus and Maude (Perkins) Young and attended local schools.Ruth and her husband John V. Brown lived in Somersworth, NH for several years. While a resident of Somersworth, she was employed for 20 years with General Electric, retiring in 1978. She was a member of the GE Retirees Association and the Somersworth Grange.They loved Great East Lake in Acton and had a camp there. They also spent many winters in Lakeland, Florida. Mr. Brown passed away in 2002.Ruth enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and cooking. Having no children of her own, she especially loved and doted on her numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews, many of whom survive her.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 18 at 10:00 AM at the Notre Dame Church of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, 10 Payne Street, Springvale. Burial will follow in the family cemetery on Young's Ridge in Acton.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
