Ruby Lothrop
Ruby Tarbox Lothrop, 94, a longtime resident of Sanford, died April 22 at the Southridge Living Center in Biddeford after a long illness.She was born in Saco on October 23, 1914, the daughter of Raymond and Esther (Smith) Tarbox. She attended Buxton schools, the former Samuel Hanson High School and the Northeastern Business College in Portland.In 1939, she married Edward A. Lothrop and they made their home in Pine Point where they were self-employed in the wholesale and retail clam business. She also did some housekeeping at the summer home of Gov. Brann in Pine Point. She retired in 1973, but still worked part time cutting clams.They lived in No. Waterboro for many years and also in Zephyrhills, FL. She moved to Sanford in 1994. While in No. Waterboro, she was a member of the North Waterboro Community Baptist Chuurch.She was always at her husband's side whether working or during their extensive travels across North America, to Alaska, and to the British Isles. She enjoyed square dancing, gardening and was a wonderful cook. Mr. Lothrop died in 1996.Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Labbe and her husband Richard of Old Orchard Beach, a sister, Dorothy Cobb of Orlando, FL, grandson Rick Labbe, his wife Cindy, their children Lucas Labbe, Austin Fagan, Zachary Fagan, Patrick Fagan, III and his daughter Madalynn, of Shapleigh granddaughter Michelle Plazeski, her husband David and their daughter Katherine of Saco, brother in law Joseph Lothrop of Pine Point, sisters in law Madeleine Lothrop of NH and Betty Phillips of Kennebunk and several special nieces and nephews.A funeral service will be conducted on Monday at 10 AM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. Burial will follow in Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland.The family would like to express its appreciation to Allegiance Hospice and the staff of Southridge Living Center for the love and care shown to Ruby and her family during these last weeks and months.
