Rose M. Saucier, 75, of Springvale, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, December 22, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Rose was born on October 31, 1950, in Van Buren, Maine, to Alphonse and Lucie (Cyr) LaPlante. She grew up on a dairy farm in Cyr Plantation, where she learned the values of hard work, family, and generosity that would guide her throughout her life. She attended local schools and graduated from Van Buren High School. Following high school, Rose attended beauty school in Lewiston and worked for a time as a hairdresser before returning to Van Buren, where she was employed at a local shoe factory for several years. She later chose to leave the workforce to devote herself fully to caring for her home and raising her family.
In 1973, Rose married the love of her life, Donald Saucier. Together they shared 50 years of marriage until Donald’s passing in 2024 and raised two children. In 1983, Rose and her family relocated to Dover, New Hampshire, when Donald accepted a position at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, beginning a new chapter filled with family memories.
Rose found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved gardening and growing flowers, enjoyed camping, and treasured the many camping trips shared with her husband and children over the years. She had a creative spirit and enjoyed oil painting by numbers and knitting, often crafting afghans that she lovingly gifted to family and friends. An excellent cook, Rose delighted in preparing meals for those she loved and was especially known for her beans, Christmas cookies, green Jell-O fruit salad, and sugar pie—testaments to her well-documented sweet tooth.
Above all else, Rose was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. For more than 30 years, she selflessly cared for her husband through many health challenges, always placing the needs of others before her own. She had a wonderful sense of humor, loved to joke around, and found great joy in laughter shared with family and friends. Rose was deeply loved by all who knew her and will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Rose was predeceased by her husband, Donald Saucier.
She is survived by her two children, Brian Saucier and his wife Nadia of Alton, New Hampshire, and Tracy Fairbrother and her husband Steven of Springvale; four cherished grandchildren, Jacob Fairbrother, Kyle Saucier, Bailey Beck, and Jonathan Fairbrother; five siblings, Roland “Guy” Cyr and his wife Normande, Delano LaPlante and his wife Jocelyne, Delcia Schultz and her husband Robert, Jaqueline Leclerc and her husband Onile, and May Ouellette and her husband Ronald; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Foley; and two brothers-in-law, Gary Saucier and Robert Saucier and his wife Terry.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Springvale, where Rose will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, Donald.
Arrangements are under the direction of Black-Heald & Walker Funeral Home, Sanford-Springvale.
