Ronald A. Camire, age 90, of 9 Bennett Street, Sanford, died peacefully in his sleep at the Greenwood Center in Sanford on December 19, 2014. He was born in Sanford on October 2, 1924 to Edmond and Olivine (Gagne) Camire. Ronald was the youngest of sixteen brothers and sisters and the last surviving sibling. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church and a long time member of the Knights of Columbus. He attended Holy Family School and Sanford High School before his entry into the United States Army. He was assigned as an engineer in the 3rd Army 8th Armored division..."The Thundering Herd." Ron was known as "Frenchie" by his colleagues in the division and was often utilized as an interpreter in the French countryside.Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to the states working construction at Pease Air Force Base and later in the Goodall Mills. He finished his working career at Pratt and Whitney industries, retiring in 1987.Ron was an avid outdoorsman enjoying both hunting and fishing equally. When not in the great outdoors, Ron could be found out on the golf course or tending to his vegetable garden in his backyard. Ron had a great passion for swing-era music. He would often fill his home with the sounds of Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Artie Shaw. Ron and his wife Dorothy (Lantagne) Camire would dance to the live big-band sounds of the swing era masters most weekends at the Old Orchard Beach Pier in its heyday. Ron's wife of forty years died in 1993.Surviving Ronald and Dorothy is their daughter Patricia (Camire) Huntington and her husband Mark of Windsor, Connecticut, two sons, Paul Camire of Portland, and Chuck Camire and his wife Cathy of North Berwick. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Craig Huntington and his wife Megan of Lebanon, Connecticut, Lindsey Huntington of Windsor, Connecticut, Sayje Camire-Stang of Columbus, Ohio, Chloe and Connor Camire both of North Berwick, and a great granddaughter, Lilly Huntington of Lebanon, Connecticut.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Holy Family Church of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish in Sanford, on January 10, 2014 at 10:00 AM. A private burial will be held in the the spring at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
