ALFRED Brother Roland A. Vigeant FIC 84 of the Brothers of Christian Instruction, Walsh University, Canton, OH died Thusday September 11 at the Altercare of Hartville, OH. He was born in Fall River, MA December 8, 1923 the son of Roland A. and Alice (Pelerin) Vigeant. Brother is survived by Nephews Roland Dufault of W. Orange, NJ ; Raymond Dumont of Warwick, RI ; Jean Dumont of Jacksonville, AL ; and Roland Dumont of Westfield, MA ; Nieces Therese Dumont-Cary of Harrisonville, MO ; Elizabeth Baganz of Kingston, NY ; and many grandnephews and nieces. Cousins, Brother Albin Vigeant of Alfred, and Andre (Deborah) Gauthier of Fall River, MA. Brother was also predeceased by his parents, his brother Albert, his sisters, Loretta Dufault, Florence Sherman and Sister Florent Vigeant, RJM and nephew Albert Dumont.Brother Roland entered the novitiate of the Brothers of Christian Instruction, LaPrairie Quebec August 14, 1939. He made his final professsion at Alfred on June 29, 1945. He taught school in Montreal, Plattsburgh, NY, Biddeford and Waterville, ME, Fall River, MA and Detroit, MI before becoming principal at Msgr. Prevost High School in Fall River ; St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Louisville, OH and Mount Assumption, Plattsburgh, NY. In 1971 he joined the faculty in the English Department at Walsh College. Later he taught in the Education Department with audio visuals until his recent illness. He enjoyed golf, skiing, ice skating right into his eighties. He also enjoyed reading and had great fondness for classical musical especially opera. In 2005 Walsh University bestowed upon him the Distinguished Service Award and the Alumni Association gave him its Lifetime Achievement Award.A period of visitation will take place Saturday September 20 at Notre Dame Chapel from 9 :00 AM followed by a concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 10 :00 AM with Reverend Father Theodore Letendre as principal celebrandt.
