Long time resident Roland P. Richard, 85, passed away January 20, 2006 at the Southridge Living and Rehabilitation Center in Biddford, surrounded by his family.Mr. Richard was born December 24, 1920 in Sanford, a son of Maurice and Helen (Jodoin) Richard. He was a communicant of Holy Family Parish.A member of Sanford High School's class of 1939, Mr. Richard was a World War II veteran where he served in the navy on PT boats in the south Pacific and received a Purple Heart.Mr. Richard was employed at the family's neighborhood store for many years and was also a cobbler. After the family store closed, he was employed with Roland J. Dubois, Sanford Linoleum and retired in 1991 from Guillemette's Flooring.Mr. Richard was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Lorraine Perreault who passed away in 1976.Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Cecile B. (Lapierre) Richard of Sanford, two sons, Paul Richard and his wife Pam of Hamden, CT, Brian Richard and his wife Wanda of Springvale, two daughters, Betty Foster of Brownfield, Nancy Merrow of Biddeford, two stepdaughters, Elaine Hadiaris and her husband Chuck of Sanford, Estelle Collette and her husband Roger of West Chester, PA, one stepson, James Lapierre and his wife Ann of Sanford, 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 6-8 PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 AM at Holy Family Church. Burial will be in the spring in St. Ignatius Cemetery.
