Roger P. Vermette

Roger P. Vermette, 73, of Sanford, died at his home on Friday, February 10, 2017.Roger was born on February 8, 1944 to Emile and Barbara (Sessler) Vermette in Sanford where he grew up and attended local schools. In 1965 he married Claire St. Cyr and together they raised three sons and shared 51 years of marriage. He held several jobs during his working life, retiring from Pratt & Whitney in 1999 at the age of 55.Roger was a big sports fan and enjoyed watching football, baseball and especially auto racing. He was an avid reader and could often be found reading a book. He was a devout Catholic and had been a communicant of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish in Sanford and St. Anthony's in Kennebunkport. Roger will be remembered as an independent and quiet man who enjoyed spending time at home and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.Roger was predeceased by his parents and by his son, Andre Vermette.Surviving are his wife, Claire Vermette of Sanford; two sons, Pierre Vermette and Paul Vermette and his wife Michele, all of Sanford; six grandchildren, Deven Gonzalez and her husband John, Charles Vermette, Sydney Vermette, Amanda Vermette, Daniel Vermette and Joseph Vermette and his sister Louise Gomez.A graveside service will be held at a date to be announced in the spring at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford.Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider sending a memorial contribution to Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 US Route One, Scarborough, ME 04074, or online at www.hospiceofsouthernmaine.org/give.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.To leave a message of condolence for the family please click on the condolences tab to the left.
