Roberta Celeste Mescavage

roberta mescavage
Roberta C. Mescavage, beloved sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford. She was 81. Born in Sanford, Maine on April 23, 1943, to Edward and Celeste (Roberts) Mescavage, Roberta graduated from Sanford High School. Her journey through life took her around the world, including several cherished years in Ecuador, where she worked as a teacher. Eventually, she returned to her roots in Maine, where she found fulfillment serving as the Animal Control Officer for the Town of Wells for many years before retiring. Never one to sit idle, Roberta continued working part-time at an art gallery in Ogunquit, a fitting role for someone who deeply enjoyed painting and crafting. A gentle and quiet soul, she spent her happiest moments at home in the company of her beloved cats, who were her constant companions. Her love for animals was boundless, and her heart always had room for those who needed care and kindness. Roberta's life was marked by her warm heart and friendly nature. Though quiet by disposition, she was deeply kind, and her friends and family knew her as a compassionate and loyal presence. She had a lifelong passion for reading, especially enjoying history and fiction novels, often getting lost in the pages of a good book. Roberta was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Celeste, and by her sister, Martha Mescavage Garcia. She leaves behind her sister, Jane Cowen, and her husband, Derrick, of Georgia; her niece, Tracy Endicott, and her husband, Jesus, of California; her devoted caretaker, Tammie Flacco of Sanford; and many cousins, all of whom will cherish her memory. In accordance with Roberta’s wishes, services will be private. Her quiet strength, kind heart, and love for animals will live on in the memories of all who knew her. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider sending a memorial contribution to the local animal charity of their choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
