Robert H. Marks

Robert H. (Desmond) Marks, 71, of Sanford, died July 30 at the Newton Center in Sanford after a long illness.He was born in Boston, MA on August 14, 1935, a son of Daniel and Mildred (Smith) Desmond and attended Somerville, MA schools.He was a navy veteran of the Korean Conflict.For many years, Mr. Marks was employed as a bus driver for Michaud Trailways. An avid fisherman, he was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Sanford.Family members recalled his love of volunteering for veterans and for York County Community Action. He loved camping and travelling and he maintained a collection of eagles.Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Betty (Martin) Marks of Sanford, 4 children, Joy Lemay of Bremerton, WA, Kelly Johnson and her husband Richard of No. Waterboro, Bob Marks of Memphis, TN, Lori Court of Springvale, a sister Dorothy Shea of Mass., a brother Richard Marks of Somerville, MA, 8 grandchildren, Christopher Lemay, Katlyn Hall, Stephanie Johnson, Patrick Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Dylan Court, Megan Court, Brian Court, and a great grandson, Trenton Lemay.A private memorial service will be held. Burial will be later in the proposed Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Springvale.
