SCARBOROUGH - Robert "Bob" L. Knight Sr., 66 died peacefully on Thursday, October 20, 2011, at his home with his loving family by his side. Bob was born in Seattle, WA. on December 27, 1944, giving his sister. who was born 9 years earlier on the same day, her birthday present. He was a son of Delbert and Lois Jackson Knight. He graduated from Nenana High School in Alaska in the class of 1964. He played basketball and was on the wrestling team. Bob lived in Nenana for 35 years. He worked for Yutana Barge Lines for many years before he served as Mayor of that city for thirteen years. He was known to most as Uncle Bob. On August 1, 2001 he married Sharon L. Hamblin. Following his marriage. he resigned as mayor and drove 6,000 miles as he made his way to Scarborough Maine, where people called him Mayor Bob. He worked for the city of Biddeford, Waste Water Treatment Plant, for eight years until his retirement in 2009. He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, doing puzzles, playing cards, especially cribbage and also loved sci-fi. He was an avid sports fan who always cheered for his Seattle Seahawks and Mariners. But most of all he loved to travel, Mexico, Hawaii the hotter the better. His favorite trip was Hawaii 2005 when his daughter got married. Everybody loved Bob from coast to coast, and his legs weren't bad either. Bob was predeceased by a son Robert "Bobby" L. Knight Jr., a daughter Danielle "Dani" N. Knight and three brothers Dick, Bill and Jim Knight. He is survived by his wife of ten years, Sharon Knight of Scarborough; a daughter Kathryn D. "Kitty" and her husband Michael Karnoski of Lake Stevens, WA; two step daughters Julie and her husband Danny Carter of Saco and Jamie and her husband Brian Guay of South Portland; a sister Delores Street of Cave Jct., OR; 8 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many, many nieces and nephews. At the family's request all services will be private. Burial will take place Nenana, Alaska.
