In Loving Memory of Robert "Bob" Horne
April 16, 1943 - January 15, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert "Bob" Horne, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Bob left this world on January 15, 2024, at the age of 80, surrounded by the love of his family.
Bob was born in Portland, raised in Redbank, South Portland, and from the beginning, he filled the lives of those around him with warmth and joy. He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Dolores; his loving daughters, Michelle Huckins and husband Corey, and Nicole Horne and husband Chris Gorman; as well as his grandsons, Graham and Colby; and siblings, Richard, Janet, Fay and Candie. More than anything, Bob cherished his family and friends, and his love for them was evident in every moment spent together.
A proud Navy veteran, Bob served his country with honor and dedication. He was not only a man of service but also a man of many talents. Bob was known for his handy and creative spirit; there was no problem he couldn't solve or project he couldn't tackle. He took great pride in his ability to fix anything, leaving a legacy of resourcefulness and resilience.
Bob had a passion for cars, particularly Chevys, and was a proud and loyal swap driver for Pape Chevy/Subaru for the past 18 years. Prior to Pape Chevy/Subaru, he worked at Jordan’s Meats for 42 years.
Bob enjoyed the thrill of snowmobiling through the winter landscapes, especially longer trips with his close friends. His love for the outdoors led him to countless adventures, whether it was at camp under the stars or simply savoring the beauty of nature. Bob found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life.
Bob's pride and joy extended to his daughters and grandchildren, whom he adored beyond measure. His legacy lives on through the memories of love, laughter, and the invaluable lessons he shared with those fortunate enough to know him.
As we mourn the loss of Bob, let us also celebrate the life of a remarkable man who touched the hearts of many. May his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration during this difficult time.
A gathering time for friends and family will be held from 4:00-6:00pm on Friday, January 19th at Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway.

Forever in our hearts, Bob will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I have such wonderful memories of him and your family. I remember in middle school I went snowmobiling with Nic and her dad and he taught me how to warm my feet on the muffler when they got cold (with wool socks on of course!). He was a wonderful man and will be missed. Love to the family ❤️
My deepest sympathies to Dolores, Bob’s daughters, son-in-laws and grand children.
He spoke proudly and often of them every time that we traveled together to a point that I felt as though I knew them as well. I only knew Bob a few years, but we became friends quickly and I looked forward to spending time with him sharing stories of anything that happened since we saw each other last. A man of high integrity, kindness, strong love for his family and his country and a devoted friend. I loved the fact that when you traveled, you knew that you were stopping for Dunkin coffee and an old fashioned donut, if you were near Amesbury, at lunch time we were stopping at Niko’s for roast beef sandwiches, or Freeport for a hot dog. Bob knew every route and short cut that exists in Maine, NH, Mass or Vermont.
What a huge loss, he leaves a hole in my heart as he has in many. I will miss him. Rest in peace Bob, you’re a good man. The Bob & Bob driving team will be my fondest memory. Bob Schools
Please accept our heartfelt condolences. Our hearts go out to you all after this sudden loss. You’re in our thoughts and prayers.
