Resided in: Kennebunk, Maine

North Carolina - Robert Giggey, 76, died on Sunday, November 7, at Huntington Commons in Kennebunk, Maine. Born in Frankfurt, Germany in 1947, Bob grew up on military bases across the country. He considered Maine his home state, although he lived for more than 30 years in North Carolina. His experience as a medic in Vietnam shaped his professional career. He completed his training at Howard University and became one of the first physician assistants in the state of Maine. He spent his early career at Franklin Memorial Hospital and moonlighting across rural Maine. He retired as a faculty member from Duke University Hospital. He loved golfing, flying, and spending time at the family cottage on Great Diamond Island in Portland. Most of all, he loved to share experiences with his family and friends. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mary (Meissner) Giggey; and sister, Carolyn. He is survived by his wife, Evangeline; his girls, Kate (Scott), Abby (Jacob), and Annie (Michael); and grandchildren Logan, Caraline, Amelia, Eva, Atticus, and Owen. He will be missed by his many close friends who were like family to him. Visiting hours will be held Sunday, November 10th from 12-2pm with a service from 2-2:30pm at Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland, Maine.

  1. So sorry you are gone. We played a lot of golf and I’ve had several great trips to Maine. Thanks for the memories. I wish my health was better so I could come to the funeral. You’ll be missed big guy. Prayers to the family.

  2. It was sad news when I learned of Bob’s passing. I had the good fortune to have know Bob throughout his career in Maine. He was a genial person and a consummate professional.
My most heartfelt condolences to Eve and his family.
    Bob Lapham, P.A.

  3. I am surprised and deeply sadden by the news of Bob’s passing. While we had not seen each other for many years, I always held him in high esteem as a good friend and a great physician assistant (P.A.).
    With sympathy,
    Carl M. Toney, P.A.

  4. So sad to hear this news. Bob and I played a lot of golf together and took many airplane trips in N044X
He was a great guy who loved his family dearly. He walked my wife Debra down the aisle when we married in 2005. Love ya buddy. RIP

  5. Eileen and I extend our deepest sympathies to the Giggey family and close friends. We will miss seeing Bob on the island.

  6. Bob and I shared the night shift at Franklin Memorial Hospital, much to the relief of the rotating ‘on-call’ of medical staff. The PA concept was readily accepted by the staff and community. We both served as Medics in S.E. Asia.
