SCARBOROUGH - Robert John Daniels, Sr., 71, died February 14, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Portland, on January 22, 1942, the son of John Francis and Kathleen (Powers) Daniels. Robert grew up in Portland, attended Cathedral Grammar School and Portland High School. In 1963, he married Susan Duran at St. Patrick's Church, and together raised five sons. Robert worked as a tile installer, and started his own business, Daniels Tiles Center. As a young man, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and wood working. His greatest joy came when his grandchildren were born. He learned from them all the meaningful things in life. He loved them dearly. Most recently, Robert attended the Latin Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with his entire family. He received his last rites before passing. In addition to his parents, Robert is predeceased by three sisters, Pauline Higgins, Barbara McCormick, and Patricia Flintoff; and three brothers, Donald, Richard, and Kenneth. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Susan; five sons, Robert J., Jr. and wife Michelle of Standish, Steven M. of Buxton, Peter J. and wife Muny of Buxton, Thomas M. and wife Maria of Buxton, and Jeffery J. and wife Gina of Buxton; 19 grandchildren, Peter, Jr., Sarah, Andrea, Andrew, Jacob, Thomas L., Katelyn, Mary Susan, Anna, Max, James, Jeffery J., Jr., Michael, Francis, Nicholas, Kellianne, Dominick, Xavier, and John Robert; sister, Joanne Dorr of Skowhegan; many nieces and nephews; and dear friends. Bob was very grateful for all help and support of his many caregivers throughout his illness. Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 6-8pm on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Prayers will be recited at 9:15 am on Wednesday at the funeral home, followed by a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Church, 1342 Congress St., Portland. Interment will follow in New Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert's honor may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.Online condolences may be expressed below.
