FALMOUTH - Robert Bernard Carson, 82, of Clearwater Dr. died at home on Sunday, June 5, 2011. He was born in Portland, Maine on August 1, 1928 the son of Charles F. and Annie Warren Carson. He attended local schools and graduated from Cheverus High School in 1946 and then from Boston College in 1950. On October 9, 1954 he married Shirley Maureen Ahern at Holy Cross Church in South Portland. Robert worked as an office manager for New York Life Insurance Company. He worked all up and down the East Coast, finally retiring in 1985 after thirty five years of service. After retiring Robert and Shirley returned to make Maine their home. Robert was an active communicant of Holy Martyr's Catholic Church in Falmouth and served as a cantor there. Robert loved music of all types. He was involved in the first production ever staged at Lyric Theatre in South Portland. He was a part of the singing group Vocalaires, who sang on a 1950's television show. Robert was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, Ruth McDonough and Madeline Anderson, and one brother, Charles Carson, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Falmouth; a daughter, Patricia Larson of Bangor; a son, Richard Carson and his wife, Karen of Channahon, IL; a brother, Vincent Carson and his wife, Mary of Woodcliff Lake, NJ; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June, 9, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Friday, June 10, 2011 at 9:15 a.m. followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Martyr's Church, 266 Foreside Road, Falmouth.
