Robert Berube

Robert R. Berube, 85, of Sanford, died on Wednesday, December 15th at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.
Robert was born on September 8, 1936 to Marius and Rita (Cormier) Berube in in Somersworth where he grew up and attended local schools. He graduated from Somersworth High School where he participated in football and track. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served for 28 years. In 1958 he married his wife Laurette and together they raised one son and shared 52 years of marriage before her death in 2010.
Robert enjoyed making jewelry, picking berries and flower gardening. He was a very social man and enjoyed talking with friends and meeting new people. He was active at the Vet Center in Springvale and enjoyed visiting the Trafton Center in Sanford. He was a loving father and grandfather and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He will be remembered as an outgoing and friendly man and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Robert was predeceased by his wife, Laurette Berube and by two siblings, Richard and Ronald Berube.
Surviving are his son, John Berube and his significant other, Jamie Decker of Sanford; three grandsons, Tyler, Austin and Connor Berube; three siblings, Roger Berube and his wife Helen of Somersworth, Lorraine Bedell and her husband Steve of Florida and Irene McCluskey of California and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, December 20th at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, located at 580 Main Street in Springvale. A graveside service with military honors will be held in the spring at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Springvale.
Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider sending a memorial contribution to the Vet Center, please include a note requesting funds got to the Vet Center Fund in Roberts name. Checks should be made payable to VAVS and mailed to VA Maine Healthcare System, 1 VA Ctr. (135), Augusta, Maine 04330.
Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
