Robert Austin Allaire, 80, of Sanford, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2006 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was born in Sanford, Maine on August 10, 1926, a son of Damase and Laura (Grondin) Allaire.Mr. Allaire served his country in the US Navy during WWII. He was a communicant of Holy Family Catholic Church. He retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where he had been employed as a carpenter.His hobbies included woodworking, remodeling and building, especially making toys for all the grandchildren. He was always helping his children with projects, even houses. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren in all events including sports. He was always willing to drive anywhere for any activity they were involved in.He is predeceased by one brother, Raymond Allaire and four sisters, Rose Plante, Lucille Chretien, Pauline Allison and Rita Nadeau.He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Claire (Sevigny) Allaire of Sanford, five children, Roger and wife Denise of Shapleigh, Rachel Tibbetts and husband, Gary of East Boothbay, Donald and wife, Susan of Springvale, Priscilla Lenkowski and husband, Joseph of Acton, Norman and wife, Kim of Limerick, ten grandchildren, Nathan Sevigny and wife, Amy, Sean Allaire and wife, Jessica, Todd Allaire, Maeve Tibbetts,Joshua and Emily Allaire, Matthew, Carolyn, Daniel and Connor Allaire, and one great grandson, Jack Sevigny. He is also survived by two brothers, Lionel and Norman, four sisters, Lorette Aceto, Alice Guillemette, Lorraine Lavertu and Doris Daigle.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 14th, at 11am at Holy Family Catholic Church in Sanford. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery in Springvale.In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to the American Heart Association, 343 Gorham Road, South Portland, Maine 04106.Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale.Condolences may be expressed by using the "condolence" tab to the left.
